Educational Programmes Conducted

Primary Trauma Care (PTC) Courses:    23courses have been conducted for doctors, nurses and first responders at Apollo Hospitals Delhi, Abdul Razzak Hospital, Ranchi; St. Johns Ambulance, Mumbai; Max Hospital Delhi; Columbia Asia Hospital, Bangalore; Kaza, Himachal Pradesh and Jodhpur.

This training was provided on how to give emergency aid and transport patients with head injuries.  Life saving courses for schools and health workers involved with care of street children in Delhi have also been conducted. In February this year a PTC course was held at the Army Equestrian Centre for the benefit of the Polo fraternity.

Emergency Management Exercises:   MEMEx (Mumbai Emergency Management Exercises) were conducted in Mumbai from the 3rd to 9th November, 2008, coordinated by Dr. Robert B. Bristow, MD, FACEP, Director of Disaster Medicine, Emergency Medicine Department, New York-Presbyterian, The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell and Dr. Satchit Balsari MD, MPH, Emergency Physician, New York-Presbyterian. The program was the result of a multi-institutional partnership designed to harness the strengths of emergency responders, hospitals, and state agencies as they prepare to confront urban catastrophes.
The week–long event included a series of rigorous workshops focused on pre-hospital care, hospital disaster preparedness, trauma care, and evaluation methodology, all culminating in table-top exercises and a large field drill simulating a mass casualty incident. Nearly one hundred volunteers acted as victims and were evaluated at the disaster site, medically triaged and transported to hospitals where they were assessed and treated. The drill was then evaluated for its effectiveness with the aim of creating a road map for regional emergency response capacity development.

From year 2010, it is proposed  to conduct one such Disaster Management Exercise every year.
