CASE STUDY 6

A 9-year-old boy with Congenital Hydrocephalus came to us in July 2023. Child H/O delayed birth Cry (2-3 minutes) baby was born via normal delivery with 2.53 kg birth weight. At the Age of 4 months, parent noticed that his head size was not normal (typically large). He was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus and referred RML hospital, Delhi. Shunting surgery was Done.

On examination, he had muscle weakness on left side of the body, poor hand functions, anger issues, Gait deviation (limping) was also there. He had behavioral issues with balance and coordination problem. Forgetfulness was there and was not able to recall his daily routine work. Initially he was not co-operative with the Therapist and throw tantrums unnecessarily throughout the sessions. After 3 months of Occupational Therapy, he is able to balance himself on balance board, muscle weakness is reduced, improvement in muscles strength, his behavioral issues are decreasing. Now Gait pattern is quite developed. Hand functions are improving. Independent Mobility is developing.

In Special Education, there is improvement in attention and concentration, his recent and remote memory is improved, positive behaviour modification, he is able to slightly manage his stress. He able to narrate short stories, command following is improved, he can easily recall his daily activities.
