PRIMARY TRAUMA CARE COURSE – MEHRANGARH FORT, JODHPUR 2016

20/05/2016 by admin in Blog

In India, Head and Spinal injuries are a major outcome of Road Accidents and natural disasters. Every year over 2,00,000 people die due to such accidents and another 5,00,000 suffer lifelong injuries and debilitation. Over 50% of fatalities could have been avoided if the victims could have safely evacuated to a hospital in the Golden Hour. Unfortunately, Trauma Care, Good Samaritans and emergency services are highly neglected in India and there is a major lack of infrastructure and medical facilities. The situation is getting worse and there is a need for all Stakeholders to combine their efforts and help in bringing down the accident rate as well as shortening the evacuation process of victims to hospitals.

Under the aegis of the Indian Head Injury Foundation, a Primary Trauma Care Course was conducted at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur by the IHIF Medical Director, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and his team from Trauma Care India. The aim of the 2-Day Event held on 16-17 April 2016 was to upgrade the knowledge in Primary Trauma Care ad First Response of the Doctors and Staff of the Rajdadisa Hospital and the Mehrangarh Fort. The objectives were to highlight the necessity of having trained First Responders at multiple locations so as to prevent head injury and brain trauma and subsequently safe evacuation of the injured to a hospital. The end result of the training was that those who trained were able to triage, treat and transport ten victims safely within 22 minutes.

On Day 1,the content included hands-on-training using the specialized mannequins & volunteers, and thus delivering the basis of Primary Trauma Care. Internationally recognized Triaging cards were used to sort the multiple injured victims based on their medical condition and then sequentially transport them to hospital. The attendees were given customized trauma scenarios to practice the injury treatment.

On Day 2, practice session on Disaster Drill was organized and IHIF gifted 6 fully equipped First Responder Bags to the Fort Staff.

On conclusion of the Course, First Responder Certificates were awarded to all the participants.
