A 52 year old lady came to Our Centre in July 2023. Diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy post-COVID Infection. The patient reported primary complaints of difficulty in swallowing, headache, pain in her right jaw, trouble speaking and right eye dryness, tenderness in post auricular region, right eye is not opening. Cranial Nerve examination findings are pain and tenderness in temporal & mandibular branches of facial nerve and motor fibres of trigeminal nerve was also involved.
Pre-treatment outcome measure: Sunnybrook Facial Grading System: Resting Symmetry 15, Symmetry of Voluntary Movement 60, Synkinesis 12, Total Score: 33, VAS 6/10.
The PT intervention included education, facial PNF, Myofascial massage, Facial muscle expressions and strengthening exercise, eye protection exercises, biofeedback+EMG, movement control exercise. Following PT intervention, facial muscle strength improved, with a near complete eye and lips droop improved. Post treatment he felt less difficulty in drinking, no drooling, mild headache, less pain in her right jaw, less trouble in speaking clearly and right eye dryness reduced, no tenderness in post auricular region. Mild furrow brow develop, eyes are more opened, decrease muscle tone in left cheek, more motor control developed.
Post treatment outcome measure: Sunnybrook Facial Grading System: Resting Symmetry 0, Symmetry of voluntary Movement 80 Synkinesis 5, Total Score: 75, VAS 3/10.
