On the occasion of World Spine Day, I would like to remind you all, to look after your spine, both cervical and lumbar by certain adjustments required in your lifestyle. Always maintain a good posture while sitting, do not slouch and support the lumbar spine on a straight chair if required. The neck should not be flexed for long periods, while working on a computer or a desk; the computer should be at the level of the eyes.
Keep the weight at a level appropriate for your height by maintaining a diet low in calories and carbohydrate. Smokers have increased incidence of back pain and spinal degeneration, so aim to quit if you are a smoker. Regular walking and swimming are good for the back. Avoid bending forward to lift heavy weights.
