The problem in India is not lack of laws but enforcement. Given the pathetic state of law enforcement, we are likely to see a drastic fall in the number of cases prosecuted and a corresponding rise in the increase in incomes of law enforcers.
Our judicial system does not help either. The Salman Khan case (and earlier the infamous ‘BMW’ case) which drag on forever are two live examples where the rich and powerful can subvert the laws.
If we introspect, how many times have we ourselves broken traffic laws especially speeding on open roads. You are a teetotaller but how many of our friends (me included) can honestly say we have never been behind the wheel after having had one too many?
However, I laud the efforts that you and IHIF are doing to increase public awareness on safety issues. Now if only I can convince my wife Raji to wear her seatbelt.
