Today is World Physiotherapy Day. Mental disorders either through injury or otherwise, are India’s ignored reality. To catch up with the world best practices, we need many many more Physios and Psycho Analysts.
Sadly, the Indian story is totally unsatisfactory in this special needs area and is a matter of great concern. 65000 is the essential shortage of physiotherapists, but unfortunately, even those available don’t find jobs due lack of infrastructure, public apathy, lack of understanding of the essentiality of Rehab, and no concern by the Gov’t. It is by and large NGOs that help the poor and burgeoning numbers in whatever way possible. There is a need for a collective and systems approach to lick this problem, otherwise the road is only one way and that is Down Hill. Please see the linked story.
